A London-based law firm plans to expand its operation in Yorkshire.

Excello Law has established an office in Leeds with the hiring of corporate recovery and insolvency specialists Steve Thomas and Anna Shaw, who previously worked at Ward Hadaway. Excello Law, which was granted an ABS (Alternative Business Structure) licence in April, has a national commercial team of around 50 solicitors. ABS was introduced as part of the Legal Services Act, which allows outsiders to take equity stakes in law firms for the first time, creating major opportunities for expansion.

George Bisnought, the managing director for Excello Law, said: “I am extremely pleased to be welcoming Steve and Anna to the Excello Law team. Their appointment augments what has already been a period of major expansion in the region for Excello Law. Steve and Anna are well regarded in the Yorkshire community and Steve is yet another partner-level lawyer, who is attracted by our approach to delivering legal services.”

The firm plans to hire more Yorkshire staff soon.
