Investigations were being carried out today into an early hours fire that forced a family of four to seek refuge on the roof of their flat.

The family – thought to be two adults and two teenagers – climbed onto the roof of the property above a shop on The Parade, Holme Wood, in Bradford, shortly after 4am.

Neighbours and police officers are believed to have helped them to safety before firefighters arrived. The blaze caused significant damage to the flat.

A spokesman for Yorkshire Ambulance Serve said: “We deployed a clinical supervisor, one ambulance and our Hazardous Area Response Team.

“All patients were walking wounded. One ambulance went to Bradford Royal Infirmary with some of the patients.”

Fire investigators remained at the scene yesterday.
