A COMMUNITY group has realised its ambition of fund-raising for a new war memorial.
The Friends of Clifton Park in Rotherham has raised £30,000 towards the cost of a new memorial in the park.
Maintenance firm Willmott Dixon Partnerships gave the final £5,000 and tradesmen from the company will also dig the memorial’s foundations.
Group treasurer Elaine Humphries said: “People have been so kind throughout the appeal and this memorial will mean so much to Rotherham. It’s been a long haul – altogether the Friends of Clifton Park have put 580 hours into this project, but now we are smiling because we are finally there.”
Mick Williamson, managing director of Willmott Dixon Partnerships said: “We want to play an active part in delivering initiatives that leave a legacy.”
