St John's School for the Deaf in Boston Spa will be receiving a much needed boost from their patron, Gabby Logan this weekend.
The TV sports presenter has taken time out from her busy schedule to record an appeal on behalf of the school which will be broadcast on Radio 4 on Easter Sunday morning.
The school is raising money to build a performing arts centre and needs 250,000.
"The music, dance and drama that they already do there has had amazing results for the children's self- esteem, confidence and speech," said Gabby, who hopes the appeal might winkle out somebody like a retired music or record producer who might be interested in sponsoring the rest of the venture.
"Music and drama helps every aspect of school life there," said Gabby.
Jacqueline Butterwick, a teacher at the school who is also involved in fundraising, explained that the school places much emphasis on developing each child's potential and helping them to use spoken language.
The only school of its kind in the North of England, St John's takes both residential and day pupils up to the
age of 19.
Gabby Logan fronts the BBC's Inside Sport programme, covers live sport events and also works for Radio 5 Live.
"I think the school has very good aims and I wanted to do what I could to help," said Gabby. She hopes to fit in a visit to the school and check on the progress of the appeal.
