THOUSANDS are expected in Bradford city centre today to be entertained at the grand opening of City Park, a six-acre open space featuring fountains and laser lights.

The free event from 2pm until about 7.30pm includes a demonstration of gymnastics by ‘“free-runners” Urban Freeflow, street theatre, stilt walkers and bands – with a different show each hour.

From 6.20pm, there will be a display of fireworks, fountains, lasers and lights.

Barra Mac Ruairi, Bradford Council director for regeneration, said: “City Park is a fantastic foundation for the future regeneration of the city of Bradford, a first class urban park which acts as the centre piece of our ambition for the city.”
