With a field of hundreds all in winning form, it’s always one of the most sought after titles at the St Leger Festival.

And in the end this year’s fiercely contested race to be named Best Dressed Lady was a photo finish as Kirsty Booth won it by a head.

Sporting a glamorous vintage look – and a particularly impressive piece of head-wear – Miss Booth, from Bennetthorpe in Doncaster, took the DFS-sponsored accolade ahead of a host of other immaculately dressed race-goers.

She wins a host of prizes, including a trip to New York for two, and goes on to represent Doncaster Racecourse in the final of Yorkshire’s Best Dressed Lady 2015 at the Racing Post Trophy Meeting on Saturday 24th October.

Yesterday’s victory came two years after Miss Booth came third in the annual fashion contest and was even more impressive given that she admitted she had to make some last-minute adjustments to her outfit.

Writing on Facebook on Wednesday, she said: “Deciding I don’t like my dress for the races tomorrow isn’t one of my best thoughts. Last minute root through the wardrobe. And I am now panic-gluing feathers into my ladies day fascinator.”

The St Leger Ladies’ day is one of the biggest dates in Doncaster’s social calendar with hundreds of women often spending huge sums in a bid to impress the judges,

Kieran Gallagher, executive director at Doncaster racecourse, said: “Ladies Day is a fantastic social occasion, and the ladies in this part of the world never fail to impress with their stunning outfits and fashion statements.”
