A FAT CAT has gone on to lose a third of his body weight after tipping the scales at a whopping 22lbs.

Oliver the tabby was forced shed more than 6lbs before he could have ear surgery, after vets discovered he was twice the size of the average cat.

He was forced to go on a strict regime of regular exercise and low-calorie food while he shed the required weight.

He was temporarily housed with foster Carer Emma, but now that he weighs a healthy 6.7kg, he is looking for a forever home.

Animal Welfare Officer Hayley Plows said: “Oliver is a lovely cat and would make someone the perfect pet.

“He has worked really hard to lose his weight, and now deserves to find his forever home.

“It isn’t ideal for Oliver to be in here long term so we hope a kind-hearted person will be able to take him in.”
