Huddersfield Town v Hartlepool United: Free-scoring Town ready to adopt patient approach
League one: LEE CLARK believes Huddersfield Town's stunning scoring record on home soil could lead to opposition sides trying to frustrate his team.
The Terriers turned on the style to score six times without reply in front of the live Sky cameras last weekend against Wycombe Wanderers.
It was the second successive game at the Galpharm Stadium that a visiting side had been put to the sword with Dagenham & Redbridge having been soundly thrashed 6-1 in the FA Cup first round eight days earlier.
Town are comfortably the country's highest scorers at home with a phenomenal 35 goals in 10 league and cup outings, a record that Clark believes could lead to future opponents changing their approach when coming to West Yorkshire.
The Huddersfield manager said: "Some of our attacking play was of the highest quality last week. It couldn't have gone any better, to be honest, but it is gone now.
"I think that teams will come and try to nullify us, stop us playing and combat us. A couple of teams have come and done that already this season.
"Then, when I have seen them play at different places, they have gone back to their own systems. We prepare the team for all different scenarios, depending on the opposition."
The impressive manner of the performance against Wycombe has made the rest of League One sit up and take notice. Clark, however, is determined to keep his players' feet on the ground as they prepare to host Hartlepool United.
He said: "It is not always going to be a case of scoring four, five or six goals. We will have to be patient sometimes to get maybe the one goal that will get us the victory.
"I have been in this game long enough to know that it isn't always going to be like this, but we are certainly looking forward to this weekend because we are playing with a lot of confidence. Hartlepool have one of the best away records in the league and are unbeaten in five. They are not far off the play-offs themselves, so we know this will be one difficult game."
On the need for Town not to lose their focus, Clark added: "There is always room for improvement. We have a bunch of players with a lot of desire and potential to improve.
"We see it every day with players wanting to stay behind and do a bit of extra work on their weaknesses. When you have got that, you will always have improvement.
"I have said all along these lads can play at a higher level and they are determined to do that."
