CHARLIE Brooks was cast as a laid-back, self-deprecating, daft but loving husband during the court case.

Jurors were told he was foolish enough to down a bottle of Fairy Liquid but was not capable of perverting the course of justice, even for his beloved wife Rebekah.

His lawyer, Neil Saunders QC, described him as honest but sometimes daft, funny and bright but occasionally unwise and forgetful. He was also said to have showed love for his wife and young daughter.

Jurors were told he was not the sort of character to orchestrate a complicated operation involving many people embroiled in a web of deceit”.
