John Noakes: A career in pictures

Blue Peter's longest-serving presenter, Halifax-born John Noakes, has died aged 83.

The TV personality enjoyed a long career in the limelight.

These images show him in his element with his collie Shep at a sponsored 'dog jog' in Regent's Park in 1980, and marking the programme's 30th birthday with Anthea Turner and Caron Keating in 1993.

He is pictured at the National Television Awards with co-presenters Valerie Singleton and Peter Purves in 2008, and meeting the Queen in the same year.

Known for his sense of physical daring and adventure, Noakes is pictured before a parachute jump at Sunderland Airport in 1969.

And he never forgot his roots - the Halifax-born actor is shown visiting pupils at Shelf Primary School in 1979.
