Leeds Carnegie sign Bristol forward Alfie Tooala

LEEDS CARNEGIE have today announced the signing of Bristol front row Alfie Tooala on a two-year contract.

Tooala, 29, returns to Yorkshire having originally played for Rotherham in 2001 when he first arrived in the UK.

He only missed three games for Bristol this season in the Guinness Premiership and made 66 appearances in total in three seasons at the Memorial Ground.

Tooala joins Marco Wentzel of Leicester in joining the Headingley revolution.

The former Orrell and Plymouth forward said: "I am looking forward to joining Leeds Carnegie for next season.

"My family live in Yorkshire having met my wife when I played at Rotherham a few years ago and I know a lot of Leeds team.

"I spoke to other clubs who are in the Guinness Premiership or the Heineken Cup next season but the challenge of coming to Leeds is something that really excites me."

Director of Rugby Andy Key said: "We are delighted to be able to announce the signing of Alfie.

"He is someone who will be a key addition to our back row with his experience of playing in the Guinness Premiership.

"With the season finally drawing to a close across Europe over the next few weeks we are hoping to progress a number of signings that we are looking to bring into the club for next season in the coming weeks and we hope to make further announcements in the near future."
