Leeds Carnegie open against Newcastle Falcons, Leicester reunion has to wait
LEEDS CARNEGIE have been given a tasty opening to the new Guinness Premiership season with a home game against north of England rivals Newcastle Falcons.
Neil Back and Andy Key's side, winners of National One last season, host Newcastle on Sunday, September 6, 3pm, at Headingley Carnegie.
Leeds, who have already been drawn against Bourgoin in Pool B of the European Challenge Cup, will be re-united with old boys Tom Biggs and Rob Vickerman who departed Headingley for Newcastle this summer.
Leeds travel to Worcester in their second game before hosting last year's Guinness Premiership runners-up London Irish on Sunday 20th September.
Back's reunion with his former employers Leicester Tigers, the reigning Guinness Premiership champions, is not until the final weekend of November at Welford Road.
Leicester visit Headingley on February 14.
Back said: "Obviously people will always link Andy and I with Leicester, we both have some fantastic memories from our time with the Tigers.
"They had a great season last year and I am sure they will be amongst the top teams yet again next year.
"Our challenge is to match that and that acts as great motivation for the coaching staff and the players."
Following the visit of London Irish, Leeds's fourth game is away at Northampton Saints before returning to Headingley to face Gloucester in the first weekend of October.
Key said: "We have got three of our first five games at Headingley Carnegie before the first break for European competition and it will be important for us that the Yorkshire public are able to get behind the team early and make our home games something special."
They finish their first campaign back in the Premiership away at Bath on Saturday, May 8.
Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park provide the opposition over Christmas.
Leeds are offering season tickets to juniors for just 10.
