Luxury spa, haunt of Leeds’ rich and famous, closes with five job losses

A LUXURY spa in Leeds has closed after nearly a decade pampering women with a liking for the finer things in life.

Based at Brewery Wharf in Leeds city centre, the five-star Waterfall Spa opened in a blaze of publicity in 2005.

At the time it was the sole women-only spa of its kind in the UK outside London and soon acquired a reputation as a haunt of the rich and famous.

Five staff lost their jobs as a result of the spa’s closure on Saturday, August 16.

A statement on the Waterfall website says: “Over the past three years the spa business has changed dramatically and the combination of daily deal sites and increased competition has made the business unviable.

“We would like to thank all of the clients who have supported us over the years.” The statement says that valid unredeemed gift vouchers and payments made for bookings after August 16 will be refunded in full.

Well-known faces such as Coronation Street actress Jane Danson and Hollyoaks star Jessica Fox visited the spa, which was developed by the County Durham-based Ebac Group.
