A YORKSHIRE television sports presenter is to swap the Press box for the ballot box after being selected to stand for the Conservatives at the next General Election.
Calendar sport presenter Jason McCartney, has been chosen as the Tory prospective parliamentary candidate for the Colne Valley seat which is currently held by Labour MP Kali Mountford.
Mr McCartney was selected at a meeting at the Pennine Manor Hotel in Scapegoat Hill.
The father-of-two from Horsforth, Leeds, was previously a member of the Liberal Democrat Party and stood for election as a councillor for them in the Pudsey ward last year.
However he said many of Leeds City Council’s Liberal Democrats were “closet Tories”.
Mr McCartney has spent nine years working as a journalist in radio and television.
Labour held the Colne Valley seat at the last General Election with a reduced majority of 1,501, which represented a 3.4 per cent swing to the Conservatives.
