Man, 42, dies following city centre ‘assault’

A MAN, aged 42, has died after an incident in Sheffield city centre.

Police were called to the junction of West Street and Eldon Street shortly before midnight on Friday following reports of an assault.

The 42-year-old man was taken to hospital but died on Saturday.

Detectives said a 24-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed while a 31-year-old, arrested yesterday on suspicion of assisting offenders, remained in police custody.
