A DRIVER is suspected of fleeing the scene after a crash which left a man dead in South Yorkshire early yesterday morning.
The man who died was aged 28 and from Doncaster. He is thought to have been a passenger in a Ford Mondeo which left the A1 northbound carriageway and went down an embankment before hitting a tree.
Emergency services found the fatally injured man out of the vehicle but it is believed he had been a passenger.
The Mondeo driver was reported to have left the scene but investigators later arrrested a 26- year-old man from Doncaster on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and last night he was detained at a Doncaster police station.
Police said he did not appear to have sustained any serious injuries.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with information that could assist officers is urged to call South Yorkshire Police on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
