A man was assaulted by robbers who stole his belongings as he pitched a tent in South Yorkshire.

The victim was setting up camp at Manver Lake in Wath-Upon-Dearne on Tuesday when he was approached by three men.

They punched him to the face and body before leaving with two JP Sports bags containing his belongings.

The assault took place at the far side of the lake from the boat club at around 3pm.

South Yorkshire Police today issued an appeal for witnesses who were at the lake around that time.

The three men have been described as white, of an average build and wearing tracksuits.

A police spokesman said the victim, a 39-year-old, suffered injuries to his face and body in the attack.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 526 of 10 January.
