Man on murder charge over body in empty house

A 40-year-old man was yesterday charged by detectives investigating the murder of a man whose battered body was found in a vacant house.

Craig Palmer, 39, was discovered in a top-floor room at a four-storey property in Russell Square, Brighton, at 5pm on Saturday.

A post-mortem examination suggested he died from head injuries. No weapons are believed to have been used in the attack.

John Battams, of no fixed address, will appear at Brighton Magistrates' Court today charged with Mr Palmer's murder.

Three other men were freed on bail until dates in March. A fifth man, aged 28, remains in police custody.
