Man seriously injured and two deer killed in Thirsk crash

A MAN has been left with serious injuries and two deer have been killed following an accident on the A170 at Sutton Bank near Thirsk.

It happened on the Helmsley side of Sutton Bank, just before 5pm yesterday and involved a red motorcycle which collided with two deer.

The rider of the motorcycle, a man in his fifties from Hebden Bridge, was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The pillion passenger, a man in his seventies, also from Hebden Bridge, was airlifted to James Cook University Hospital with serious injuries, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

The road was closed for several hours to allow crash investigators to carry out a full examination of the scene.

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said both deer had been killed as a result of the accident.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who saw the vehicle prior to the collision to call 101.
