AID agencies are gearing up to help those worst affected by the storm, though the full extent of the damage, including the death toll, is not yet known.
Children’s charity World Vision said it had teams on the ground in areas affected by the storm.
Kunal Shah, the head of the charity’s emergency response in India, said: “In a storm of this magnitude there is the potential for widespread damage to crops and livestock in the low-lying coastal areas and houses to be completely wiped away.”
Save the Children said it was on the ground in Odisha, stockpiling emergency supplies for people hit by the storm.
