A BODY charged with making Sheffield and South Yorkshire attractive to business, boosting employment and investment, has appointed an American-born businesswoman as its new head of inward investment.
Ellen Cutler has taken up the role with the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) after working with regional development agencies in the South-West and Scotland.
Ms Cutler will be responsible for targeting companies across the UK and overseas in identified priority sectors, to invest in the Sheffield city region to create growth in economic activity and jobs.
Her remit will involve promoting the recently announced Enterprise Zone in Sheffield, as well as other parts of the county.
She claimed her new role will also include developing strong relationships with UK Trade and Industry (UKTI), the Government-sponsored organisation that has been set up to promote inward investment into the UK, as well as raising the profile of the Sheffield City Region.
Ms Cutler said: “The Sheffield City Region LEP has already established a reputation nationally for being ahead of the game and I am therefore delighted to be part of its future.
“I look forward to working with the LEP Board to capitalise on the many advantages and assets of the SCR and to continue to strengthen the local economy through inward investment and job creation.”
The LEP board’s chairman, James Newman, welcomed Ms Cutler’s appointment, and added: “This is the first high level appointment made by the LEP Board on behalf of the whole city region and demonstrates the extent of the collaboration now emerging between the local authorities as well as working together in partnership with the private sector.
“Ellen and her team will play a pivotal role in achieving the LEP’s high aspirations, and in enabling us to compete as ‘best in class’ when it comes to attracting investment – and most importantly job creation – to the Sheffield city region.”
David Grey, the board member who will be in charge of Ms Cutler’s work, added: “I am delighted that we have managed to secure an individual with Ellen’s breadth of knowledge and experience in managing high performing marketing, sales and business development teams.”
