Plans for a new academy on the site of the former Don Valley athletics stadium have moved forward after a contractor was appointed.
BAM Construction is to build the £14 million school for 1,200 pupils aged two to 16 on the landmark site in Sheffield.
The single building, which is to be completed within a year, will feature a four-storey secondary school, two-storey primary school and a central hub to be used for events. BAM has begun work on site and the school will open in September 2015.
Jackie Drayton, Sheffield Council cabinet member for children, young people and families, said: “It will be a fantastic place to learn for Sheffield’s children and young people for generations to come. We are looking forward to seeing building work begin, and ultimately, developing strong links with the community.”
