A SPRINKLING of Egyptian magic is bringing a Yorkshire football club thousands of new overseas fans.

A Facebook page in Arabic, created after the upsurge in interest in Hull City following the sparkling debut of Egyptian internationals Mohamed Nagy Gedo and Ahmed Fathi on loan from Cairo giants Al’Ahly, club owner Assem Allam’s home town team, now has over 30,000 “likes”.

Hull City’s Facebook page has rocketed from around 13,000 “likes” to 62,000.

Hull City Official Supporters’ Club is raising a “Fez Army” – selling hundreds of the distinctive hats to raise money for bereaved families of Al’Ahly fans, who died in riots last year.

Chris Smith, of the supporters’ club, said: “The impact is we have thousands and thousands more followers following the club on various social media sites. Al’Ahly is arguably the biggest club in Africa.

“Nothing has happened like it in my 50 years plus of supporting the club.”
