YP Letters: Bring back the shoes that were my perfect fit

From; Graham Lund, Glen Rothay Hotel, Rydal, Cumbria.

FOR years, I landed lucky and felt I had found the ideal shoe. Hobos from Stead & Simpson were comfortable, affordable, durable and could be mended. I walk rather a lot and these were ideal, at least a dozen pairs over the years.

The firm has changed and re-profiled and the shoe I had come to adore can’t be found though the name lingered on.

I now need shoes for work which involves slightly untidy situations. I looked for comfy, affordable shoes and tried two well-known shops with strong Yorkshire connections. Asda/George had useful, smart looking shoes which fitted well but were not as long lasting as Hobos. Marks & Spencer had a very similar offer which lacked the expected robustness. Both seem no longer available. Fine, but how to achieve what had been so great for many years?

There is a case here for joined up thinking here. Reinvent my near perfect shoe! Establish production/sales and ensure that customers are advised these shoes can be repaired. If sales then go national, should there not be an agreement with a national shoe repairer who will fix footwear which needs a certain glue? Shoes worth wearing are worth repairing.

Can we make these in Britain under £50 a pair?
