Should Ryedale Council continue its opposition to fracking?

I AM very shocked to find that the newly-appointed Mayor of Malton, Coun Paul Andrews, and also Coun Ed Jowitt, are asking that Ryedale Council finance be used to campaign against North Yorkshire County Council.

I refer to the proposal that Ryedale District Council donates £20,000 to help to pay for a judicial review against North Yorkshire County Council’s recent decision to approve a planning application to frack at Kirby Misperton.

I find the idea appalling as it is likely to get the support of fellow councillors who are opponents of fracking and actively campaign against it. Is it sensible that Ryedale District Council should be fighting our county council in the courts? The prolonged saga concerning Wentworth Street car park comes to mind.
