I LIVE in Helmsley and have just returned from visiting the Protection Camp near the KM8 fracking site at Kirby Misperton.

I was overwhelmed by the warmth of their welcome, the offer to share their food, the orderliness and overall calmness of the camp. They are to be congratulated on their generosity and determination to come and support us in our fight against fracking.

I, along with thousands of other residents, have been fighting fracking in Ryedale for two years.

We have written letters of objection to councillors and our local MP Kevin Hollinrake. We have leafleted local towns and villages, attended meetings and walked on protests.

Ryedale is about to face the biggest threat to our countryside that we have ever had.

This is not just about one or two wells at Kirby Misperton, as that is just the beginning. There are plans for hundreds of wells throughout Ryedale, not just from Third Energy but also from Ineos.

I urge you to go and visit this camp, meet everyone there and offer your thanks and appreciation because we need their help to keep Ryedale as we know it and to stop the industrialisation that is poised to begin.
