IT appears to me that the ideal solution would have been for the doctors to work out their own plan to solve the problem of covering the weekend patient care rather than just flatly refusing to work to the plan the Government wishes to impose.

From: Christine Halsall, Marlborough Villas, Leeds.

I AM writing to send my wholehearted support to the junior doctors. We need our doctors more than ever, as the NHS struggles to cope with an ageing population. The NHS should be treasured and protected at all costs.

From: Robert Sproule, Leicester Crescent, Leeds.

TO see dedicated professionals such as doctors feeling they need to withdraw their labour is a tragedy that is clearly of this Government’s making. I trust this will be clearly understood by your readers when they vote.

From: Brian Ormondroyd, Birchwood Court, Leeds.

JEREMY Hunt versus our doctors. Which side are you on? The majority of British people support the doctors. We all need the doctor at some time. Reopen talks between all the parties concerned. Or do we wish for a US-style “health” service? Pay as you go or on the never, never?

From: Geraldine O’Brien Mead, Mill Lane, York.

I THINK the Government and my MP should push for fresh negotiations to stop the strike and I think Jeremy Hunt needs to be open to compromise. Mr Hunt, please, please, stop being so stubborn in order to save face on this issue.

From: George Neville Scott, Hall Road, Sproatley, Hull.

HEALTH Secretary Jeremy Hunt should stop acting like a dictator and agree to the compromise put forward to end the strike.

It is about time newspapers came down on the side of the doctors as I do as an 84-year-old with various illnesses needing hospital treatment with first-hand knowledge of how hard the staff in hospitals work.

From: Carole Britton, Kingston Road, Hull.

A PLEA from a 70-year-old who has had some of the best years of the NHS. Please let us make
sure that it’s here for another
70 years.

This Government is gradually destroying all that we hold dear. Support junior doctors.
