HAVING heard and read so much adverse criticism of the NHS, I would like to comment on my own recent experience.
I was referred with a hip problem to Pinderfields and told that I would receive a new hip within four to six weeks, which is what happened. I chose to have this done at Pontefract and the experience really could not have been improved upon, from the operation and care while in theatre to the time spent on the Elective Orthopaedic Ward at PGI.
The whole ward was spotless – and checked regularly.
The meals were excellent, a very good choice, well cooked and presented, and the staff – what can I say? They were without exception, whatever their role, caring, cheerful, efficient and there when we needed them.
However busy, they still made the patients feel there was always time for them and their needs.
My whole experience from start to finish bore no resemblance whatsoever to the damning criticism of the NHS that we so often hear and read.
I can’t thank everyone involved in my care enough and would certainly recommend the NHS and Pontefract General Infirmary to anyone needing orthopaedic care.
