Overall control stays elusive despite gains

IN KIRKLEES seats were gained by Labour, the Greens and Independents.

Labour made five gains, with the Greens, Independents and Conservatives taking one seat each. The Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives both lost seats.

Council leader, Mehboob Khan (Lab) held his Greenhead seat while Independent Charles Greaves took the Holme Valley North ward and Robert Barraclough gained the Kirkburton ward for the Greens from Conservative Adrian Murphy.

Conservative candidate Mark Hemingway, took the Lindley ward.

Labour remain as a minority administration.

The local election result leaves Labour with 32 seats, Conservatives 18 seats, Liberal Democrats 10 seats, the Green Party 5 seats and Independents 4 seats.
