Tourists visiting one of Yorkshire’s most popular seaside resorts over Easter will be able to use a new park-and-ride scheme designed to relieve congestion.
Special bus services will be operating from Good Friday in Whitby, although some aspects of the £2.8m scheme, including a terminal building and overflow car park, have not yet been completed and only around 230 of the planned 450 car parking spaces will be open at the site at the junction of the A171 and B1460.
North Yorkshire County Council has faced a wave of criticism over parking policies designed to run alongside the scheme including on-street parking charges and permit parking.
Instead a revised permit scheme will be introduced on May 1.
Notices will be displayed in streets affected explaining the changes.
