PHYSICIANS DO not have sufficient information from clinical trials to understand the risks linked with prescribing testosterone to older men, researchers have warned.

While the benefits of testosterone therapy in younger men with a deficiency of
the hormone are well established, testosterone is
now widely prescribed to older men.

In an article in The Lancet, Professor Stephanie Page, of the University of Washington and Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, claimed even if an extensive trial was to be launched immediately, “reliable safety data is at least a decade away”.
