Body found in River Ouse in search for missing man from York

A body has been pulled from the River Ouse in the search for a missing man, police have said.

North Yorkshire Police was called to the scene between Clifton Bridge and Scarborough Bridge near York after being alerted by kayakers earlier this afternoon (Sunday).

It follows the search for Nick Gunnell, 55, who was reported missing last week after he was leaving his home in the city.

Mr Gunnell was last seen at home at 11.20am on Tuesday before police believe he visited a business address in York city centre.

Although the body has yet to be formally identified, Mr Gunnell's family has been notified.

A post mortem and formal identification will now be carried out and a report prepared for the coroner.
