The family and friends of missing chef Claudia Lawrence made an emotional appeal for help to find her yesterday on what would have been her 39th birthday.
Miss Lawrence has not been seen since she failed to turn up for work at York University nearly four years ago.
The chef was last seen on March 18, 2009, near her home in Heworth, York. She never turned up for work the next morning in the university kitchen.
Her father, solicitor Peter Lawrence, has led a relentless campaign to find out what happened to his daughter.
Mr Lawrence’s friend and spokesman, Martin Dales, said yesterday: “I cannot believe that we are yet again at another birthday for Claudia and there is still no news as to what has happened to her.”
Detectives at North Yorkshire Police have said repeatedly they believe Miss Lawrence has been murdered.
Mr Dales added: “All anniversaries are hard for the family and friends to cope with and it is unacceptable that there is still no closure - good or bad.
“Out there are some heartless persons who know something but they don’t have the guts to tell the police what they know. How low can people get - it’s outrageous and continues, after four years, to cause immense damage to Peter and the family.”
Mr Dales said huge amounts of police time and more than £750,000 of public money has gone into the search for Miss Lawrence.
He said: “So I make a further appeal to those who know these answers.
“How can you sleep at night knowing you know the answer?”
He urged anyone with information to come forward and “end the misery of all those who love and care for Claudia.”
