Police are appealing for information after a man was hit by a vehicle as he lay in the road.
The 47-year-old pedestrian, who was from Skipton, was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services were called to a carriageway of the A65 near Draughton, Skipton, at 7.09pm on Wednesday.
Police said he had been hit by a vehicle while laid in the road and that the vehicle stopped at the scene as did a number of others, including some motorists who’d had to swerve to avoid the man.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “At this stage it is unclear how he came to be laid in the carriageway and investigations are ongoing to try and establish whether he stumbled into the road and fell or whether a preceding vehicle has hit the man.”
Witnesses have reported seeing a man walking along the A65 prior to the collision but police still want to hear from any other motorists who were driving along the road in either direction at around 6.45pm to 7.10pm.
