POLICE in Rotherham are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was shot in the face with a BB gun.

The 16-year-old, from Bramley, was shot twice from a passing car while walking down Warren Road in Wickersley at around 4.45pm on Sunday, June 15.

PC Sean Dawson said: “The teenager was shot twice and one of the pellets has caused a nasty cut about two cms from his right eye.

“There is a very real chance that if the ball bearing had hit him just half an inch away from where it did, he would have lost the sight in his eye.

“The only description we have of the car was that it was a small black one. I would urge anybody who knows anything about this incident to please call South Yorkshire Police, as we need to find those responsible for this mindless and motiveless assault.”

The car was travelling in the direction of Northfield Lane.

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 1021 of 15 June 2014.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
