POLICE in Whitby are appealing for information following the theft of cable near the town.
Thieves escaped with nearly 500ft of heavy duty lead and copper cable from an underground culvert from the A171, near the Flask Inn. Pc Zoë Warboys, of the Whitby Safer Neighbourhood Team, urged anyone who saw suspicious activity at the time of the offence to get in touch. The theft happened between Thursday and Friday last week, but North Yorkshire Police only released details yesterday.
Pc Warboys said: “I am also keen to speak with any scrap metal dealers who may have been offered the cable for sale and ask that they get in touch.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on the non-emergency number of 101.
