RURAL police forces could lose out to cities in a Government shake-up of how forces are funded, it is feared.

Julia Mulligan, North Yorkshire’s police commissioner and chair of the National Rural Crime Network, is urging people in rural communities to respond to a Government consultation. It comes ahead of NCDN research showing only a third of rural people believe the police are responding to issues that are of concern to them - compared to two-thirds nationally. Cuts would mean “trust will only diminish.” North Yorkshire receives £77m, compared to Humberside Police £124.5m, South Yorkshire £189.9m and West Yorkshire £319.3m.
