WHEN you are responsible for the care of 101 hedgehogs, Christmas can be quite a challenge.

Vicky Greenwood has been taking care of poorly and underweight hedgehogs for almost four years and her modest semi in Scarr End Lane, Dewsbury is now home to over 100.

When she is not caring for the animals, she is fund-raising as it costs about £50 a day to feed 100 hogs.

She is now appealing for people to keep a watchful eye for confused hedgehogs and would also welcome help with fundraising.

“I have 95 in the house and six outside. I have done more fund-raising this year, to help pay the vet’s bills, which last Christmas was £220. On my busiest days I have had five hedgehogs coming in.”

This year she hasn’t been able to return too many back to the wild due to bad weather but she hopes to release more next year.

“A few have been held back longer than they should have. As soon as spring comes, I can release them.”
