THE chairman of a group against the HS2 high-speed rail link between London and Birmingham has hit back at a Tory MP who branded opponents of the project a “ragtag alliance of luddites and Nimbys”.
Weaver Vale MP Graham Evans said a recent email to parliamentarians from the Stop HS2 campaign was “riddled with inaccuracies, exaggerations and distortions”.
In another letter to Mr Evans, the Stop HS2 chairman Lizzy Williams said Mr Evans had chosen “to make offensive remarks about my organisation” rather than accept an invitation to attend her group’s convention later this month.
Ms Williams wrote: “This is not the kind of professional or courteous response I would expect from any MP or professional. I sincerely hope that the statements reported are inaccurate and you have been misrepresented.
“I am extremely disappointed you decided to take this course of action if the reports are indeed accurate.
Mr Evans had said HS2 opponents were “making ludicrous arguments against the plans”.
