A body pulled from the River Ouse last night (Sunday) is that of a missing former York GP, police have confirmed.

Police discovered the body of Dr Mandeep Ahluwalia, a former GP and dermatology expert, yesterday evening in a stretch of the river which runs along the back of St Peter’s School playing fields in Clifton.

The body was recovered from the river by the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Underwater Search Team at around 8pm, following a call from a member of the public just after 4pm.

Dr Ahluwalia worked as a GP trainer at Petergate Surgery, at Tower Court Health Centre in the Clifton Moor area of the city.

A statement released by the partners and staff at the surgery said: “All of us at the Petergate Surgery have been shocked and saddened to hear the news regarding Dr Mandeep Ahluwalia.

“He was a respected local doctor, friend and colleague. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.”

Dr Ahluwalia was reported missing from his home in York on Friday.
