A MAN who claimed he was robbed at knife-point was fined £80 for wasting police time after admitting he lied to police in an attempt to get cash to buy Christmas presents.
The 20-year old from Marsden, Huddersfield, called police saying he had been robbed in Marsden on December 23.
He told officers three men, one armed with a knife, had threatened him before taking his mobile phone and 100.
But his story unravelled during an investigation by Huddersfield CID and the man yesterday admitted lying to the police. He told officers that he made up the robbery in an attempt to get more cash for Christmas presents through a crisis loan.
