Rotherham United v Darlington: Millers are closing in on new site

League Two: ROTHERHAM chairman Tony Stewart has submitted a bid for land near the club's former Millmoor home.

Stewart wants to build a new stadium on the site and talks with the landowners will resume next month. The site is believed to be the home of an abandoned mill adjacent to the River Don.

The Millers moved to Don Valley Stadium last season after a dispute with Millmoor owner Ken Booth. However, the absence of undersoil heating at Don Valley means today's game is under serious threat.

Manager Ronnie Moore said: "We'll be very lucky if we get it on. It's typical. We get some form and want the games to come thick and fast but then this happens."

Moore says the switch from Millmoor to Don Valley does not help the club on the field. "It is like playing away as far as I'm concerned. It's not like Millmoor where you had 6,000 people leaning in on you!"

A pitch inspection will take place at 9.30am today.
