WHEN Sarah Martin gets married today she will be chased all the way to the altar.
The 31-year-old is a keen runner and before the solemnising of her nuptials with architect Nick Charlesworth will don a floaty white dress before racing around a five mile fell race from Appletreewick in the Yorkshire Dales up to Simon’s Seat and back.
Not to be outdone Nick will wear a top hat, dinner jacket and black bow tie while female members of their club, Hawkesworth Harriers, will don brightly coloured tutus.
Sarah, a project manager and former kick boxing star, said: “I expect there will be at least 100 runners joining us but entry is on the day so there could be many more, perhaps 400.
“A lot of people were worried that we might injure ourselves on the race but we know the route very well.
“It’s about five miles long and the race takes you up 1,200 feet. We just get a buzz out of running so this seemed the perfect thing to do.
“We are anticipating that the race winner will do it in a time of just over 30 minutes and the slowest will be an hour and a half.
Making the race even more special will be the knowledge that the race will be named after them - with the Charlesworth Chase set to become an annual event.
Sarah, who is originally from Portsmouth, is also looking forward to meeting friends from across the world including Malaysia and Kuwait, who are flying in especially for the event.
The couple are getting married at Craigmar in Hebden in the afternoon, with an evening reception at The Red Lion in Burnsall.
They have been together for eight years after meeting at work and live in Chapel Allerton, Leeds.
Nick, 46, added: “Sarah is gorgeous looking and I’m looking forward to it all though knowing my luck the weather will be terrible.”
