Sanders blow for Look Here team
Ralph Beckett will be on the lookout for a new jockey if he decides to give Look Here the go-ahead in the Ladbrokes St Leger on Saturday week.
The filly has been sidelined with injury since giving her trainer a first Classic success in the Juddmonte Oaks in June, but Beckett indicated she could be fit in time for the Doncaster contest on September 13.
But with regular rider Seb Sanders out of action for the rest of the season after breaking a leg in a fall at Chester on Saturday, the Whitsbury handler needs a new pilot if she does line up on Town Moor.
"It is 50-50 whether Look Here will run in the Leger at this stage,'' said Beckett.
"Hopefully this time next week we will have a good idea of whether she will take her chance or not, so we will have to see. The jockey situation is something I'm working on so we'll leave it at that for the moment.''
Sanders will miss the rest of the season after breaking his femur on Saturday.
The joint champion jockey was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital after being involved a nasty incident in the corbettsports.com Chester Handicap.
Sanders was aboard Luca Cumani's Speed Gifted and was thrown to the ground as Sir Duke clipped heels and fell three furlongs out – bringing down his mount and Cheshire Prince in the process.
Although fellow riders Dean Heslop and Pat Dobbs escaped injury, Sanders was not so lucky and now faces surgery on his leg.
His agent Keith Bradley said: "He's going to be operated on as it's a clean break of his femur I understand a clean break is better than a partial break. He's definitely out for the rest of the season. It is a shame but that's the nature of the sport, it is dangerous and unfortunately it's our name that's come out of the hat this time.''
Sanders, who shares the title with Jamie Spencer, has already notched up 89 winners this term and secured a first British Classic success aboard Look Here in the Oaks.
