RAIL commuters on the London to Yorkshire main line faced a second evening of chaos today because of “emergency engineering works” on the line.
East Coast trains from London to Leeds were held up for nearly an hour and a half between Peterborough and Doncaster.
The delays were compounded by a broken-down freight train causing delays of two hours on some services to Leeds and Bradford,
Network Rail; said: “Emergency engineering works are taking place near Peterborough. Because of this, trains between Peterborough and Grantham are being delayed by up to 100 minutes. These delays will continue until further notice.”
The delays come just a day after four lines from King’s Cross station were closed because of a death at Alexandra Palace. It caused cancellations and delays of up to an hour, affecting services to Doncaster, Leeds, York, Hull and Cambridge.
