Selco to create 50 jobs in York at new site

Builders merchant Selco Builders Warehouse is to open its latest branch in York, creating 50 jobs in the city.

The new branch will be based on Osbaldwick Link Road, with the doors due to open at the start of February.Selco already has branches in Bradford and Leeds and said the York opening will strengthen the offering to tradesmen in the area.Recruitment will cover a wide variety of positions, with virtually all the jobs expected to be given to people from the local area.The opening is part of a major branch expansion programme across the UK. Selco aims to double the size of its trade-only business over a five year period.Declan Ronayne, chief executive of Selco Builders Warehouse, said: “York is our first opening in 2018 and will take our number of branches in the UK to 60.“Selco has undergone huge and rapid growth over the last five years and the plan is for that to continue.“The Leeds and Bradford branches have given us a base in Yorkshire over the last few years and we are delighted to be strengthening our presence in the area.“Our recruitment policy has always been to employ people from the branch’s local community and that is continuing in York. We want to give people genuine career opportunities and the chance to climb through the ranks at Selco.”Selco said it is focused on helping tradespeople complete their jobs as quickly and effectively as possible.Selco also has a digital presence including a 30 minute Click & Collect service and a free Project List app which allows tradespeople to plan, manage and quote for all jobs through their smartphone.
