'Sign up soon' for Jane's run as places selling out
PLACES for this year's Jane Tomlinson's Leeds 10K are selling out fast and organisers are urging anyone thinking of taking part to sign up soon to avoid disappointment.
The city centre charity event, which is supported by the Yorkshire Post as a media partner and is a run for people of all abilities, will this year take place on Sunday, June 21.
Last night Mike Tomlinson said the race, set up by his late wife Jane, right, as her fundraising legacy, was now almost at its 11,000 capacity, adding: "We are now down to our last 3,000 places.
"It's incredible to have such support at a time of such economic uncertainty, but we are definitely going to sell out and it is now only a question of how long.
"I would urge anyone thinking of taking part to sign up as soon as possible to avoid disappointment."
Those taking part in the Leeds 10K are urged to raise money for the good cause or charity of their choice and it is hoped the 2009 Jane Tomlinson's Leeds 10K will raise 1m for charity – topping last year's 750,000.
Teams wishing to take part can also enter either the Leeds 10K Corporate or Team Challenge.
Jane Tomlinson's Leeds 10K is organised by Jane's Appeal, which raises money for children's and cancer charities including Martin House Hospice, Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice, Yorkshire Cancer Centre, Macmillan Cancer Support and the children's medical research charity Sparks.
Last week Mr Tomlinson and his family announced that Jane's Appeal had topped the 2m target set before Jane's death and was now aiming to raise 5m.
