Law firm Abney Garsden, one of the largest practices dedicated to claims by survivors of abuse, is to be bought by personal injury law firm Simpson Millar.
Peter Garsden, who founded the firm in 1985, said: “This is a very exciting time for us and with the support of Simpson Millar we can add even more value to our clients and have even further added security for the important work we do, especially abuse cases.
“I looked carefully at the culture and values of Simpson Millar, and the emphasis on access to justice and the social conscience of the firm are a good match. This move is all about making sure our clients’ driving desire for justice can still be supported by legal advice.”
Peter Watson, from Leeds-based Simpson Millar, said: “We knew instantly that Abney Garsden was the right type of firm to join Simpson Millar because of their strong values and social conscience.
“The extended offering we now have in our portfolio means we can give better and wider services to all our clients. Peter has built a strong firm with a positive future and by joining Simpson Millar we can offer a more flexible and secure place to compete effectively in the market place.”
In a separate move, Simpson Millar said Andrew Darke, formerly an equity partner with Irwin Mitchell, has joined as director of partner distribution.
