The show, whose previous hosts include Sir Bruce Forsyth and Carry On star Jim Dale, was launched in 1955 and included performances by acts including Bill Haley, Bob Hope, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. It ran until 1967 and was briefly revived in the mid-1970s.
