A ROTHERHAM man has been jailed for five years after admitting sexually assaulting a three-year-old child in Doncaster earlier this year.

Paul Thomas, aged 32, of Vicar Road, West Melton, Rotherham, pleaded guilty to sexual assault when he appeared before Sheffield Crown Court.

He was jailed for five years and placed on the Sex Offender Register for life.

Police were called to the Armthorpe area of Doncaster on Friday July 3 after the victim reported being sexually assaulted by Thomas.

He was arrested at the scene and later charged.

Det Sgt Nicola Hallam of South Yorkshire Police, said: “The sexual abuse of a child is a horrific crime and I am relieved Thomas has accepted responsibility for his despicable actions.

“We acted swiftly to apprehend Thomas and bring him before the courts, further demonstrating our absolute commitment to the protection of children.”

Thomas was also made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which will restrict his contact with children after his released from prison
